Newstead leads campaign to raise funds for charity and encourage e-recycling of old electronic devices

Singapore, November 30, 2016 – ‘Tis the season to be giving. Care for the environment and help needy children by recycling your old electronics. Newstead Technologies, a major consumer electronics retailer today announced that it will be running the Gift Your Tech campaign from December 5, 2016 to January 27, 2017 to benefit its charity TOUCH Community Services (TOUCH). Newstead Technologies will donate 20% of the trade-in value of old electronic items brought for recycling and raise a total of $20,000 for TOUCH.

During the eight-week campaign, 12 participating Newstead Technologies stores, including five outlets at Marina Square @ Avenue 10 Digital Playground, will act as e-waste collection points. Only devices such as PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones will be considered for trade-in for cash vouchers equivalent to their trade-in value. Consumers can combine as many of these cash vouchers in one receipt to purchase new items at any Newstead Technologies stores.

TOUCH’s children services helps children from single-parent or low-income families to realise their potential through education and social support. Anita Low, Director of Community Relations, TOUCH Community Services said, “Newstead Technologies’ initiative for users of old electronic items to trade in their gadgets extends beyond monetary value – it will make a difference in the lives of many needy families and their children. On behalf of our clients, we would like to thank Newstead Technologies for their support and we hope that many will contribute to Gift Your Tech.”

Through Gift Your Tech, Newstead Technologies aims to encourage e-recycling and proper disposal of e-waste. PC Dreams, Newstead Technologies’ partner for the campaign will cleanse all collected devices of data securely. For end-of-life electronic items that are not eligible for trade-in, Newstead Technologies will recycle them through an e-waste recycling company.

Mindy Tan, Chief Executive Officer, Newstead Technologies said, “Improper disposal of e-waste is not only harmful for the environment, your personal data can be at risk. Our 12 stores are conveniently located for everyone to visit and take part in this campaign. We hope Singaporeans will find it easy to e-waste recycle this time and make it a habit to do so. Every one of us has this old computer sitting at home, why not recycle it and do your bit for charity this year.”

Newstead Technologies will organise a Gift Your Tech event on December 28, 2016 at Marina Square. To highlight the importance of personal data security, Newstead will organise an educational live demonstration together with PC Dreams to show how erased data can be easily retrieved. Consumers will also be able to trade-in their devices or e-recycle during the event.
