Garmin announces new slew of wearables and car portable navigation devices at CES 2017

Garmin today announced a slew of products and services for its wearables and car portable navigation devices at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 in Las Vegas, USA. The US press releases are attached for an overview of Garmin's announcements, while local availability and pricing will be announced on a later date.

These include the new fēnix® 5 line of multisport GPS watches from Garmin’s top-of -the-line fēnix series, the first time Garmin is creating multiple sizes of a single product to reach more users with varying wrist sizes.

The smallest fēnix 5s comes with a 42mm watch face, suitable for ladies with smaller wrists. The standard fēnix 5 is at 47mm while the largest 51mm fēnix 5X will have additional navigation functions built in.

All fēnix 5 watches are designed for multiple sports including running, hiking, swimming and biking. The watches contain built-in smarts such as wrist heart-rate monitor, daily activity tracking, compass, altimeter, barometer plus GPS and GLONASS support satellite tracking systems, and are water-rated to 100 metres.

When paired with a compatible smartphone, users can get call, text and email smart notifications right on their wrist. All fēnix 5 models are compatible with Garmin’s Connect IQ Store so users can customize their watch with apps, widgets, data fields and watch faces.

The Connect IQ application store is also expanding to link Garmin users to services from more leading companies such as ride-sharing service Uber, cycling accessory company Trek/Bontrager, energy gel producer GU Energy Labs and nutrition tablet creator nuun, via downloadable apps created for Garmin devices.

Garmin's next-generation Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs), the Garmin Drive 51 and DriveSmart 51 from the Garmin Drive 2017 line, will also be launched here with free live services including traffic and parking information, and real-time location sharing.
