ConnectedLife integrates Fujitsu IoT Solution into cloud-connected eldercare platform
Singapore, March 21, 2017 - Fujitsu today announced that ConnectedLife, a Wellness and Healthcare company that has developed unique technology and applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) to address the needs of a fast-ageing global population, will be incorporating FUJITSU IoT Solution UBIQUITOUSWARE Resident Monitoring Solution, an offering under FUJITSU Digital Business Platform MetaArc, into its cloud-connected intelligent independent living service.
As populations grey across Asia, a growing number of seniors have ended up home alone. Those aged 65 and above make up a third of all one-person households in Singapore, for example. Even if the older adults have family members living with them, long working hours often mean that there is no one to check in on them most of the day. ConnectedLife was set up to help families better connect with and care for their relatives while respecting their privacy. This offering from ConnectedLife with Fujitsu, uses Microsoft Azure-based cloud to support the safety of older adults who are living independently while providing their family members with peace of mind.
Fujitsu’s powerful and comprehensive Resident Monitoring Solution (RMS) is incorporated into ConnectedLife’s sleep wellness and bedroom safety module to enhance its intelligent independent living service. RMS consists of sensitive and reliable sound sensors and Fujitsu’s proprietary sensor algorithms for behavioral analysis. RMS sensors work passively in the background to detect activities as the older adults go about their daily sleep routines. The collected data, in the form of motion and sounds, are sent to the sensor algorithm which is installed on ConnectedLife’s Microsoft Azure cloud platform for analysis. Over time, the sensor algorithms will learn what an older adult’s behaviour is normally like, and can detect anomalies in that behaviour.
The inclusion of RMS, with its deep analytics capabilities, provides ConnectedLife subscribers with real-time updates, such as loud noise which may be a result of a fall, or coughs, snoring and other environmental factors like temperature and humidity which may impact the quality of sleep. Poor sleep and in-room movements during expected rest times can be a cause of concern for family members. ConnectedLife alerts and updates are delivered through wearables, smartphones and web applications which are optimized for every family member, from children to older adults and professional care providers. RMS also includes an emergency call button that users can activate as needed to contact emergency services or a family member immediately.
“Fujitsu and ConnectedLife share the vision to develop effective solutions to address the many challenges we still face every day. Fujitsu is committed to offering Human Centric IoT initiatives. ConnectedLife is equally user-centric, undergoing many rounds of testing before launch and giving feedback serious consideration when fine-tuning its solutions,” said Wong Heng Chew, Country President, Fujitsu Singapore. “Fujitsu looks forward to helping ConnectedLife improve the quality of life for older adults and their families. We will continue to look for new opportunities to work with partners on Human Centric Innovation initiatives while enhancing the Fujitsu IoT value proposition with powerful sensor algorithms.”
“ConnectedLife has developed intelligent solutions for the global ageing population including Independent Living, Chronic Illness Management and functional care for Orthopaedic Conditions and Parkinson’s Disease. Our partnership with Fujitsu’s IoT solution provides a further level of insight about the quality of sleep for our older adults which can impact their day and overall well-being. The emergency button and speaker system on the device provides greater peace of mind for caregivers and also allows us to provide A.I. assistant services to older adults as required. We are excited about this new journey with Fujitsu and look forward to continued co-innovation so that we can bring the best solutions to the market,” said David Ng, CEO, ConnectedLife Pte Ltd.
This new service will launch in Singapore in April 2017 following a six-month trial in the city-state. ConnectedLife plans to bring to bring this to Australia by July 2017, and then to Europe thereafter. ConnectedLife is targeting to reach at least 70% of those aged over 65 who live alone in each target country with the new service.
