UBTECH Robotics Introduces STEM-Friendly AstroBot Kit
The First Jimu Robot Kit that builds a humanoid, an anthropomorphic wheeled vehicle and threaded mobile robot.

UBTECH Robotics, the company that created the cutting-edge Alpha1 Series of humanoid robots, today introduced the unveiling of its newest Jimu Robot offering, the AstroBot Kit. AstroBot Kit (click for video) is the first Jimu Robot Kit that builds three distinct form categories: humanoid, anthropomorphic wheeled vehicle and treaded mobile robot with grab and lift action.

AstroBot Kit furthers UBTECH’s commitment to STEM (Science, Engineering, Math, Technology) learning with its most diverse and immersive Jimu Robot experience to date.  Astrobot is an interactive building block system that combines learning and fun as kids build, program and share their robot creations. AstroBot Kit delivers an entertaining space-themed backstory explaining where the robots came from and how the humanoid and vehicle characters combine to create the treaded mobile robot. In addition to its real robotics features including five servo motors, tank treads and an IR sensor, AstroBot Kit has traditional toy features not previously offered in Jimu Robots, such as two 16-color LEDs and a speaker for lights and sounds to bring the characters to life.

“AstroBot is an exciting new addition to the Jimu Robot family that kids are going to love,” said James Zhou, Founder & CEO, UBTECH Robotics. “It’s cute and personable face and design will appeal to both boys and girls, and kids will enjoy watching AstroBot move seamlessly on its tank treads.

AstroBot Kit is ideal for both the home and educational sectors due to its variety of building outcomes, as well as its use of sensors, lights and sounds that extend and enhance the coding and play experience.

“AstroBot Kit is the perfect example of how UBTECH is taking the sophisticated technology of real robotics and introducing it to the pure fun, open-ended play and educational value of toys,” said Ronald Teng, Managing Director, Ban Leong Technologies Limited, the exclusive distributor of UBTECH Robotics in Singapore and Malaysia. “We’re excited to be at the upcoming Maker Faire Singapore 2017 to introduce our Jimu Robot line to the Maker scene as the next generation of technology-driven play and STEM education.”

Jimu Robot teaches kids computational thinking and focuses on the real world application of problem solving, expanding their understanding and mastery of:
·  Logical, lateral & spatial thinking
·  Problem-solving & planning
·  Creative & critical thinking
·  3D hands-on engineering
·  Team building & cooperation
·  Trial and error experimentation

The Jimu Robot AstroBot Kit has all the parts, connectors and servo motors needed to build three characters – AstroBot, Astron and Rover. The kit includes the Jimu Robot app with step-by-step 3D instructions including zoom and 360 degree views to make building the robot easy. Once built, the app features pre-programmed actions with Blockly coding and Apple’s Swift coding or the ability to program your own actions to make AstroBot do almost anything. An in-app joystick remote also lets you control your AstroBot on your iPhone and iPad. Additionally, the app connects users to the global Jimu community to share their creation or programming with Jimu Robot lovers around the world. The JIMU Robot app for both Android and iOS is available free for download.

The Jimu Robot AstroBot Kit includes:
·  5 Smooth Motion Robotic Servo Motors
·  397 Snap-Together Interlocking Parts & Connectors
·  1 Infrared Sensor
·  2 x 16 Color LED Lights
·  1 Speaker
·  1 Main Control Box
·  1 Long Life, Quick Recharging Lithium-Ion Battery
