OPPO Research Institute targets profound new developments in mobile technology

April 6, 2018, Shenzhen, China – OPPO, the camera phone brand enjoyed by young consumers around the world, announced today that the OPPO Research Institute is officially open. As well as its technology innovation capabilities, the Institute will focus on technology pre-research, innovating on user’s needs and aims to be at the frontier of industry insights.

Based in Shenzhen, OPPO has created research centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Japan (Yokohama), and the US (Silicon Valley), which will produce cutting-edge research work in software, hardware, and mobile standards.

Also, OPPO Research Institute announced a partnership with Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, establishing the OPPO-Stanford Collaboration Lab to explore Artificial Intelligence front end technologies and application. Aside from AI, OPPO is cooperating on 5G with New York University, Beijing Technology University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) Standards Research Institute.

Furthermore, the OPPO Research Institute in Shenzhen officially opened on March 29 and revealed its overall structure as well as future research directions. Tony Chen, OPPO CEO, Mac Zeng, OPPO senior VP, Levin Liu, President of the Institute, and other executives attended and addressed the ceremony.

“The foundation of the OPPO Research Institute demonstrates the company’s persistence and continuous input for technology R&D,” said Levin Liu, the head of OPPO Research Institute, continuing “The research institute will focus on software, hardware, and standards, centering on 5G, AI, image processing, new materials and other new technologies, to carry out front end research, so as to build technology foundation to improve the competitiveness of the products in the future. ”

Liu also mentioned that after the establishment of OPPO Research Institute, further improvements regarding structure building and talent of the institute would be ongoing. OPPO will recruit practical-oriented talents with forward-looking vision and academic backgrounds around the globe while maintaining close communication and cooperation with social research institutes and universities around the world.
