AMD just released their new Kabini and Temash APU for computers which requires extremely low power consumptions earlier in the first half of the year. Currently, ASUS will be launching their new Vivobook X102BA notebook based on the Temash APU A4-1200 which only has a TDP of 3.9W.
Previous APUs TDP are rated at around 15-25W and are found mainly on laptops. Temash's TDP which is as low as 4W allows the new chip to be placed in many other types of personal computers. These include Windows 8 tablets and also hybrids which will have an extra long battery life.
Temash APU A4-1200 is a dual-core 1.0GHz entry-level APU. It will be integrated with HD8180 GPU which has 128 stream processors clocked at 255MHz.
The specifications of Vivobook X102BA laptop is also announced. A basic model will have 2GB of memory, 320GB HDD capacity while higher end configurations include 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD capacity. In addition, there are 2 USB 2.0, a USB 3.0 port, a HDMI and a VGA ports. It also comes with a built in SD Card reader and will have support for 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi networks and Bluetooth 4.0.
The battery has a capacity of 22 or 33Wh and will last up to 5 hours on a single charge.
The notebook will also be preinstalled with Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition which includes the commonly used Word, Excel, PowerPoint and One Note. As for the price, the standard version is about 330 euros, which is about 560SGD, making it one of the most cost effective Windows 8 machine on the market.
