Review of the ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro Keyboard

Introduction

ASUS has decided to get more involved in the gaming hardware market by coming out with a full range of gaming products. Other than their usual gaming laptops, desktops, graphic cards and motherboard under the Republic of Gamers branding they are introducing a new gaming product lineup. Under the STRIX branding which targets more mainstream users who wants the best of the best gaming performance, these products include peripherals and also hardware components. Today, we take a look at the latest and greatest gaming keyboard from the STRIX lineup -- The ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard.

The ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard is a mechanical keyboard. This really emphasizes our point that ASUS only want to sell products that provide the best experience to users. The ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro comes in various Cherry MX key switches, namely Black, Blue, Brown and Red. We have a Cherry MX Blue one with us for review, which is a top favourite for many gamers. In the same range, games can compare to a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard. Which could be a better choice? We take a closer look at the ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard.

Mechanical Switches

ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard us made up of fully mechanical switches. This means that all keys on the keyboard will have the Cherry MX Blue switch under their key caps. To get an idea of how the Cherry MX feels like, take a look at the animation below. The switch moves down a bit before hitting the actual press mechanism, making the blue switch click.
The Cherry MX Blue switch is a higher performing switch and gives gamers the appropriate feedback for the ultimate gaming experience. However, some may find it too noisy and issirating due to the high pitched clicks coming from the switch. It will be good if you try it out at the stores before making your purchases. Otherwise, if you are changing from a conventional keyboard, you will definitely fall in love with the ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard. Each switch is also rated to have a 50-million keystroke lifespan. They are made to withstand the toughest battles.

NKRO

The problem with USB keyboards is that it can only detect a limited number of key pressed down at a single time. This is known as 'ghosting' where some keys will not be registered. ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro is designed with the N-key rollover (NKRO) technology to ensure that every single key press is registered. Forget about your actions in your games being stopped by your gaming hardware. You are ready to pwn with the STRIX Tacti Pro.

Quick Function Keys

There are quick media access buttons on the STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard too! volume can easily be adjusted with the rolling knob found on the top right hand of the keyboard. Other media buttons include a play/pause button, a mute button and a previous/next button.

Customizable Macro Keys

Equipped with 13 dedicated macro keys, forget about all the different key combinations to execute a certain move for your character in game. The command of your game is at your fingertips. With the ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard already have an unfair advantage that no one knows. This may be a great chance for you to win your rival who has always been in your way. Additionally, the F1-F8 keys can also be customized as additional macro keys ( with the ALT MACRO button). ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro also comes with an On-The-Fly macro-recording key, so you can capture actions and keystore sequences without interrupting your game.

All customization is done with the STRIX software that is provided in the package. All macros and customizations are in fact saved onto the keyboard itself thanks to the built in 4MB memory. In hardware mode, simply plug and play. You'll be ready on whichever computer you game on.

Conclusion

The ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard is no doubt one of the best gaming keyboard I've tested so far. On personal experience, I felt that this keyboard is an all rounder as the keys are well laid out and even suitable for non-gaming purposes such as typing. When it comes to games, you fingers just feel so relaxed after pressing on the mechanical keys, giving you a great experience.
The real innovation comes on the onboard memory that remembers all your pre-recorded settings. This makes the keyboard truly your personal gaming gear. Moreover, with the cool backlit keys, ASUS has just made gaming bad ass again.

The ASUS STRIX Tactic Pro keyboard is available at all major PC Stores. It is available in Cherry MX Black, Blue, Brown or Red switches.
