IBM set to change the technology scene in Singapore with the launch of The Watson Center at Marina Bay

Today, IBM opened The Watson Center at Marina Bay. The Watson Center is an incubator that is designed to bring ideas, people and organizations together to co-create business solutions with IBM's cognitive, blockchain and design capabilities. The opening was graced by the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Understanding that Singapore is one of the most forward looking country in the world, IBM has decided invest and open their Asia Pacific Headquarters right here. The new hub in Singapore will also allow IBM to help clients in the region in shaping the future of their industries.

With the demonstrations that are showcased at the event today, we got a sneak peek into the capabilities IBM's technologies. It was eye-opening to see that extremely high tech applications are already available, and even in production. We are finally approaching the start of the cognitive era.

Parkway Pantai, one of Asia's largest healthcare provider, showed off their latest proactive patient monitoring system that was developed with IBM's Watson technology. With the use of various sensors, the system was able to provide real-time data analysis in order to anticipate, predict and diagnose a patient's condition. This preempt doctors of possible anomalies that could turn into life-threatening events. This system showed the capabilities and potential impacts that are made possible with the utilization of IBM's cognitive services.

With IBM's Bluemix cloud platform, developers can easily tap into IBM's vast technologies via APIs to innovate and create a wide range of cognitive enabled smart applications. Additionally, with the launch of IBM Garage Singapore, IBM experts can collaborate with developers and entrepreneurs to test-drive IBM tools, processes and procedures. This levels the playing field for enterprises of all sizes, enabling them to have the same support and access the technologies.

The announcement of IBM's investments in Singapore will catalyze the process of smart application development, allowing the country to fast forward her vision to be a smart nation.
