Looking for a Fully Modular Power Supply Unit? – Try the Cooler Master V Series

The Cooler Master brand should not be foreign to any DIY desktop PC builders. Cooler Master is known for building some of the most popular and reliable DIY gaming products in the industry, including but not limited to computer chassis, peripherals, CPU cooler, ATX power supply and case fans. In Singapore, Cooler Master can even be considered a household brand for many PC builders as the brand has successfully built trust and received acknowledgement from the DIY community.

Putting the small talk aside, let us focus on the product for review in this article. The Cooler Master V Series power supply is one of the manufacturer’s top of the line product. Understanding the requirements of various PC builders and modders for proper cable management within their desktop, Cooler Master V series of power supply caters to those whose seeks for the ultimate solution.

The Cooler Master V series power supply is a 100% fully modular solution. This means that every single cable coming out from the power supply unit (PSU), including the 24pin and EPS 8/4pin cables, can be removed for the best possible cable management capabilities. These fully modular PSUs gives modders the flexibility to DIY on the provided cables’ sleeves, thus enabling the full potential and customization options for their desktop design.

In our labs today, we have the Cooler Master V1000 Power Supply Unit for review. In this article, we will take a look at the various features and design considerations put in place when engineering the Cooler Master V1000 power supply unit to ensure its quality, reliability and most importantly, performance.

The Cooler Master V1000 utilizes a single 12V Rail design. This ensures the maximum compatibility with multiple graphics card setup within a desktop computer. In fact, even though rated at 1000W, this power supply has got the capabilities to do even more. By specifications, it can output a total of 1142W in total, across all different voltage outputs.

Quality

Cooler Master reassures their customers by having only the best possible hardware within the power supply. These high quality electrical components that were selected contributed to the various positive characteristics attributed to a good power supply.

For example, they have used “highest” grade Japanese capacitors to ensure prolonged lifespan of the PSU under different usage scenarios. To reduce any voltage fluctuations from the input electrical source, a double EMI filter was in place to ensure that the power supply received a more constant electrical voltage and therefore is able to step down and transform them to the right ouput voltage effectively. This means that the PSU components are going to last longer as they are working within their specifications, and the computer components that are powered by the PSU will also receive the right input electrical inputs as required.

Reliability

The Cooler Master V series power supplies are made to last. To ensure that vital components within the power supply is properly cooled to ensure its longevity, they are cooled by a highly efficient heatsink that is aided by a large PSU fan. A 135mm rather than a conventional 120mm fan is placed within the PSU to draw cool air into the power supply to cool its components. A larger cooling fan also means lesser fan noise and more airflow, thus providing an optimal cooling solution without adding additional fan noise. Cooler Master even claims that the V series power supply is one of the quietest power supply units in the market!

As Cooler Master also manufactures their own PC case fans, the fan within the PSU has also adopted one of the best possible fan technology. This fluid dynamic bearing fan allows a smoother spin between the fan motor and its blade, resulting in a much quieter operation and a longer lifetime(due to lessen wear and tear of fan components).

Performance

The performance of a good power supply unit largely depends on the regulation of its output voltage and efficiency. A clean (near constant) voltage output to computer components directly affect the reliability of computer components. Cooler Master ensure that the V Series power supplies conforms to the strictest standards to keep the +12V rail within +-1% voltage stability. Of course, for overclocking enthusiasts, this could possibly mean higher overclocks and less stress on the motherboard to ensure clean electrical inputs.

The Cooler Master V Series Power Supplies is also certified to be 80 PLUS Gold. This means that little energy is loss during the conversion of raw electricity from the wall to the computer’s component specifications. 80 PLUS GOLD certification states that the power supply is minimally 87% efficient under varying percentage of rated load. For the layman, this power supply helps you to save electricity, as compared to any other power supplies in the market of a lower rating!

Conclusion

To be honest, there is really nothing that we can complain about the Cooler Master V Series power supply units. It has got all the core characteristics that every DIY Desktop PC builder wants for a PSU, and Cooler Master even went many steps further to implement innovative solutions to expand its reliability, performance and quality. To top it all up, Cooler Master is even willing to provide a whopping 5 year warranty on this product. Such an example is a distinct exemplification of what it means by product confidence. The legacy of Cooler Master continues…
