Microsoft has already been working on the next generation of Operating System, codenamed "Windows Blue". At this point of time, we are still not sure if Windows Blue will be the next big OS, or just an upgrade version to the coming Windows 8.

When asked about his views on Windows 8, he stated that Windows 8 will be performing smoothly, but it is still far from perfection. Therefore, they are already putting much effort on Windows 9 to give users an overall better experience.
