Microsoft has announced that a team of four student developers from Nanyang Polytechnic will be advancing to the final stage of its premier technology competition, the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016 World Finals. Known as Team Yuuy, the students will be headed toSeattle, USA, from 26-29 July 2016, to face off against the brightest young minds from around the globe. These student technologists and aspiring entrepreneurs will be showcasing their game-changing inventions and go-to-market business plans to make the world a better place.
This year, 35 finalist teams (selected from more than 150 semifinalist groups across 60 countries) will compete in three categories - Innovation, Games, and World Citizenship – for a chance to win the coveted Imagine Cup trophy, up to $50,000 and a private mentoring session with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
Team Yuuy will be bringing to the table Ruth, an interactive social robot to assist the elderly as a personal assistant. Ruth not only understands speech and context, but can reciprocate with appropriate verbal answers, respond to emotions, display expression feedback and call for help. You may recognise Ruth from her recent meeting with Satya Nadella himself!
Team Yuuy and Ruth first broke through the competition in the Microsoft Imagine Cup Singapore 2016 National Finals event, walking away as champions in the World Citizenship category.
