NUS Overseas Colleges’ BitCam Team Bags Top Prize at Hitachi Vantara CodeSG

SINGAPORE, December 13 2017 – Hitachi Vantara, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. (TSE: 6501), announced the winner of its first ever FinTech code-a-thon, CodeSG. BitCam, the team from NUS Overseas College comprised of Jerry Tan, Ho Ren Sen, John Goh and Choo Yan Sheng, took home the winning prize of S$3,000 following an intense weekend of competition.

Their winning solution, “Smart Accident Reporting With Blockchain,” demonstrated how insurers can utilize data from traffic and road technology to manage a road accident emergency and facilitate claims processing. BitCam is a dashboard camera add-on for vehicle drivers that sources accident data from cars near the accident site and processes it into Hyperledger, Pentaho Data Integration and Business Analytics, and Hitachi Content Platform. This allows insurers to have a multi-angle view of the incident with automatic accident reporting. 

“We were really happy with the results of our inaugural CodeSG,” said Russell Skingsley, chief technology officer, Hitachi Vantara Asia Pacific. “The winning team. BitCam, had great energy and presented many fresh ideas that incorporated Hitachi Vantara’s solutions such as big data analytics (Pentaho) and object based storage solution HCP (Hitachi Content Platform). Their solution also responded to important social issues which aligned to Hitachi Vantara’s global citizenship where we constantly seeking the integration of cutting-edge technology to create social benefits. We will definitely be looking at hosting another edition of CodeSG in 2018.’’ 

A total of five teams participated in CodeSG.. Hitachi Vantara CodeSG was held from November 3-5, 2017 at The Hangar at NUS Enterprise.
