Noctua has officially announced the availability of the legendary NH-D15 G2 that scales the original's good points to another new high.
Although the cooler has been showcased during COMPUTEX 2024 at their own booth, the announcement is still grabbing all our attention because everyone who wants it gets to own it starting today.
Designed to maintain its status as the top CPU air cooler, this second generation features 8 heat pipes compared to the original's 6 and asymmetrical fin stacks refined through extensive R&D, paired with the new speed-offset NF-A14x25r G2 PWM fans.
As a modern product, enhanced compatibility is achieved through offset construction, providing full clearance for top PCIe x16 slots on most motherboards. This ensures no issues when fitting a large GPU, perfect for creating the ultimate rig of 2024. The Torx-based SecuFirm2+ multi-socket mounting system, along with the NM-SD1 screwdriver and NT-H2 thermal compound, remain integral components.
Refined to be the true successor of a great era, Noctua has highlighted many unique points for this state-of-the-art creation, summarized below (excluding those previously mentioned):
Smaller Form Factor: 9mm less heatsink depth compared to the original
Increased Fins: Fin spacing was reduced from 1.9mm to 1.6mm, resulting in 23 extra fins and 20% more total fin surface area, with the width of the front fin stack reduced by 5mm
High Wattage Rating: Designed for CPUs with 250W++ TDP
Reduced CPU Deformation on LGA1700: The addition of 1mm shim washers under the socket’s Independent Loading Mechanism lowers pressure on the CPU, resulting in 2-3°C lower temperatures in some cases
Enhanced RAM Compatibility: At least 59mm clearance for RAM in single fan mode, allowing high-end modules to be installed without issues (32mm clearance in dual fan mode)
Offset Fan Speeds: In dual fan mode, both fans operate at different speeds to reduce noise
Wide PWM Range: From 300RPM to 1500RPM, with 0% PWM possible for no noise during idle
Low-Noise Adapters: Two units included with each NH-D15 G2 retail package to reduce maximum fan speed to 1300RPM
Great Component Cooling: Also benefits VRM and motherboard heatsinks with strong airflow
Offset Mounting Option: Optional offset mounting bars for AMD AM5 to target CCD dies more directly
Legacy Support: Supports LGA1366 and LGA655 via the NM-I3 mounting kit
Soldered Interface: Fins are soldered rather than press-fitted for better longevity
