Sony is refreshing the premium end of its Walkman range with three Android-based digital music players: the flagship NW-WM1ZM3, the NW-WM1AM3 and the more compact NW-ZX900.

All three models are due in Singapore from November 2026. Sony has set suggested retail prices of S$6,999 for the NW-WM1ZM3, S$3,599 for the NW-WM1AM3 and S$2,399 for the NW-ZX900.

Three players built around premium audio hardware

The NW-WM1ZM3 sits at the top of the range with a precision-machined, gold-plated oxygen-free copper chassis. Sony specifies 99.99% pure 4N oxygen-free copper for both the main and rear chassis, along with low-resistance gold-plated screws and thick KIMBER KABLE wiring derived from its DMP-Z1 desktop music player.

The NW-WM1AM3 and NW-ZX900 use aluminium-alloy main chassis paired with gold-plated oxygen-free copper rear sections. Sony says the combination is intended to improve rigidity and electrical grounding, although the resulting audible differences are manufacturer claims that TTR has not independently tested.

The two WM1 models also replace the previous generation’s single large solid high-polymer capacitor with two such capacitors. Hand-soldered oxygen-free copper wiring, a larger 4N copper coil in the balanced-output L-C filter and a heavier milled copper block over the digital section form part of the revised power and grounding design.

The NW-ZX900 inherits selected parts from the higher-end models, including an ultra-low-noise low-dropout regulator and the same type of crystal oscillators, while retaining a smaller form factor.

S-Master HX and 11.2MHz DSD remastering

All three players use Sony’s S-Master HX digital amplifier and support native DSD playback, balanced output and high-power output. A new look-ahead noise shaper is designed to predict quantisation noise and adjust processing for faster transient response.

Sony’s DSD Remastering Engine converts PCM audio into an 11.2MHz DSD stream. On the new players, the processing can be applied to music from streaming services over Wi-Fi as well as locally stored tracks.

Each model supports Android apps and Wi-Fi, so owners can access compatible streaming services directly on the player. Sony’s official product pages also position the range for offline local libraries.

Larger screens and quoted battery life

The NW-WM1ZM3 and NW-WM1AM3 have 5.5-inch HD touchscreens, while the NW-ZX900 uses a 5-inch display. Sony has enlarged album artwork in the customisable Walkman home interface.

For 128kbps MP3 playback, Sony quotes up to 35 hours for the two WM1 models and up to 40 hours for the NW-ZX900. Its streaming estimates are up to 31 hours and 35 hours, respectively. The official WM1 product pages separately quote up to 33 hours when playing 96kHz FLAC files. Actual endurance will depend on file format, output, wireless use, display settings and installed apps.

Sony says the packaging for all three models contains no plastic, though that statement refers to the packaging material rather than the construction of the players themselves.
